Talk about your controversial
subjects! Listen, this isn't really the best pizza in New York.
It's just the place where I keep going back to over the years
and am never disappointed.
Whole bunches of the best NYC pizza places are related -- this one is somehow connected to Patsy's and the pizzas are similar -- thin crust, very fresh ingredients. All the other dishes are good, too, and the prices while higher than many pizza joints aren't out of line for this part of town where real restaurants (as opposed to theme parks) are few and far between.
I tend to judge a restaurant by how often I want to go back. The fact is that Arlene and I rarely go anywhere else these days for pizza (except for Geraci's Pizza in Cleveland, which truly is the best pizza in the world as far as I'm concerned). In New York, no place really beats Angelo's. Try our favorite pie: black olives, fresh garlic and sausage on one side (mine).
