And the Best Hamburger
in New York
(according to Charles Mathes) is...

BIG NICK'S BURGER AND PIZZA JOINT
Corner of Broadway and West 77th

Yes, my friends, this is the Big One. And I do mean the Big One.  The Sumo Burger if you are really so inclined -- one pound of the best hamburger in the city, but normal-sized (namely merely gigantic burgers) for the rest of us.

Big Nick's has been here since 1962 and it looks like the quintessential joint it is, from the thirty-year-old pictures of celebrities on the walls to the Three Stooges movies on the VCR.  Everything from Spanish dishes to health food is on the menu, but if you've got any sense go for the burgers -- and ask for extra napkins.  You won't be disappointed!  I know Richard Dreyfus wasn't -- he was sitting next to me eating a cheeseburger the last time I was there.
