Molly and Nell O'Hara (THE GIRL AT THE END OF THE LINE) run a small antiques shop in North Carolina and have twenty six oyster plates.  Perry Mannerback (THE GIRL IN THE FACE OF THE CLOCK), an eccentric billionaire, probably has a hundred different clocks.

  This is symptomatic of the collecting disease -- once you start buying one type of thing, it's difficult to stop.  Well, maybe not for everyone, but some of us are doomed because we have the Collector's Gene -- that primordial penchant to keep assembling like items. 

I am particularly nuts in this regard.  Starting with stamps, coins, comic books, baseball cards (if my mother hadn't sold my collection in a house sale in 1969, I would be a very rich person today) and butterflies.  I have progressed in my adulthood to such arcane bits of history as
